SELF-IMPROVEMENT CONTEST The annual Strength and Health Self-Improvement Contest will be run. from June 13 through August 22, a ten-week period. The contest is open to anyone and the person showing the most physical improvement, in the opinion of the judges, will be awarded. an achievement trophy. Trophies will also be awarded for second and third place.

To enter, have a photograph taken at the start of the contest and mail it, together with measurements and best strength feats, to:

At the conclusion of the contest have another photo taken, record measurements and strength feats, and send them to the Self-Improvement Contest Editor. The best strength feats, for purposes of comparison, are the press, snatch, clean and jerk, dead lift, squat, and bench press. All material submitted becomes the property of Strength and Health and the decision of the judges is final.

Henri Glorieux, who has won the Mr. Belgium title and placed third in his class at the Mr. Universe contest, operates a gym in Courtrai. He is associated with the University of Brussels. Henri speaks three languages, Dutch, French and English, and is an enthusiastic musician (trumpet and piano) and record-collector. Other hobbies include swimming and acrobatics. Henri is 5'5" tall, weighs 160 and at 23 has been training with weights six years.

Nelson Phillips, a member of the Harlem YMCA's Apollon Barbell Club, has developed impressive muscle size and definition through weight training.

Ed Kendell has impressive muscular development for a youth of 16. He trains at the Long Island Weight Lifting Club under the direction of Ray Maddock. Ed weighs 142 pounds.

A master sergeant in the Marines, John Keightley has been weight training for 22 months. At a weight of 160, John already has lifted 170 press, 160 snatch, and 200 clean and jerk.
